He was born to a noble family and was appointed as Governor of Afrika. However, when Diocletian renounced Christianity and issued orders to worship idols, Saint Mina left his position and went to the desert to worship God. He later returned to the city and confessed his faith in the Lord Christ, but was eventually martyred for his beliefs. His body was miraculously preserved and later discovered by a shepherd who was healed by the sand near his body. The Emperor of Constantinople's daughter was also healed by the sand and was instructed by Saint Mina in a dream to dig in that place to find his body. A church was built in that place, and a monastery was later established in his name by Pope Abba Kyrillos the Sixth. Saint Mina is celebrated on the 15th day of the Coptic month of Hathor.
