About the product
🙌🏾 Today we celebrate the feast of St. Moses the Black, a former slave, robber and murderer who became a great Desert Father, teacher, comforter and priest. He is a powerful example of how the grace of God can transform anyone who repents and seeks Him. 🙏🏾
St. Moses was born in Ethiopia in the fourth century AD. He was enslaved by people who worshiped the sun, but he rebelled against them and escaped. He became the leader of a gang of bandits, who terrorized the region with violence and crime. He was a strong and fierce man, who loved to eat and drink excessively. He also had a habit of talking to the sun, asking it to reveal the true God to him. 🌞
One day, he heard someone say that the monks of Wadi El-Natroun (Skete) knew the real God. He decided to go to them and find out for himself. He met St. Isidore the priest, who welcomed him and took him to St. Macarius the Great, who preached to him, taught him the faith and baptized him. He became a monk and devoted himself to prayer, fasting and asceticism. He fought hard against his old temptations and passions, with the help of St. Isidore and other elders. He also performed many acts of humility and service, such as filling the water pots of his fellow monks at night. 💦
After many years of spiritual struggle, he became a holy man, filled with wisdom and grace. He was ordained a priest and became the father of 500 monks, who followed his example and guidance. He wrote rules for monastic life and taught many lessons on virtue, repentance and forgiveness. He was known for his meekness, humility and love for all people, regardless of their race or background. He once said: "If we are on the watch to see our own faults, we shall not see those of our neighbor." 🕊️
He was martyred in 405 AD, when a group of Berbers attacked his monastery. He refused to flee or fight back, saying: "Those who live by the sword will die by the sword." He prayed with his brothers until they were killed by the invaders. He received the crown of martyrdom and joined the heavenly choir of saints. 🌟
St. Moses the Black is venerated by many Christian churches, including the Coptic Orthodox Church. He is the patron saint of Africa and nonviolence. He is also an inspiration for all who seek to overcome their sins and weaknesses by the power of God’s love. 🙌🏾
Let us ask for his intercession today and always: O holy Father Moses, pray to God for us! 🙏🏾
